Parallel Event Ukraine: Strengthening the role of women in reconstruction and peace-making processes in countries with military conflicts

Parallel event “Ukraine: Strengthening the role of women in reconstruction and peace-making processes in countries with military conflicts” was held, organized and conducted by independent delegations of Ukrainian women at the UN.
The delegation is formed by the NGO “Geopolitical Alliance of Women ” in partnership with the Institute of Cultural Affairs International, which has a special consultative ECOSOC status at the UN.
The event is held in partnership with the World Association of Rural Women, which is represented in 65 countries of the world and under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha, the leader of the international demining movement, initiator of the global anti-landmine campaign and movement for a mine-free world: “One Mine – One Life” and co-organizer of the parallel event “Ukraine: Strengthening the role of women in reconstruction and peace-making processes in countries with military conflicts”.

Parallel Event was opened by Peace Ambassador Princess Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha.

“Dear Secretary General of the United Nations,
Representatives of the Independent Delegation of Ukrainian Women to the United Nations, and all Distinguished Guests of the parallel event.

It is a true honor for me to be a co-organizer and patron of this special event: “Ukraine: Strengthening the Role of Women in Reconstruction and Peace-making Processes in Countries with Military Conflicts”.

For many years I have had the honor of being the head of the geopolitical alliance of women and a member of the Independent Delegation of Ukrainian Women to the UN, as the only foreigner in that group. Our hearts beat the same way, and our minds are dreaming the same dream – a world without violence, a peaceful world with a strong representation of women leaders supporting the change.

Last year, our parallel event “Young Change Makers – Future Moral Leaders
with the Global Goals Spirit” among others, concentrated on the problem of landmines and it was one of the points that we stressed to the UN Secretary-General.
Two years after Russia’s full-scale invasion, about 30% of Ukraine’s territory is infested with land mines, an area roughly equivalent to the state of Florida.
Being a humanitarian means understanding that whoever changes one life, changes the whole world.
I firmly believe that women can be a pacifying force and that women’s leadership is now needed more than ever.
Many of you traveled to the United Nations directly from Ukraine. Your effort is very meaningful and makes a difference.
I want to thank Svitlana Salamatova and Natalia Kaplun for their constant dedication, hard work, and advocacy at the United Nations.
Strengthening the role of women in reconstruction and peacemaking processes in countries with military conflicts is our goal.
We need to invest in peace, we need a roadmap for peace.
It is wonderful that at the United Nations, our delegation works intensively on that effort.
I’m thankful to all the women leaders and the heads and representatives of leading organizations for joining us in that effort,
The result of today’s work will be a joint resolution to the Secretary General of the United Nations.
Today I’m in Poland at the meeting of the Polish Red Cross, tomorrow I will be in the Northeastern part of Poland, just 40 kilometers from the border with Russia. On the opening of the charity initiative Europe-Ukraine with the humanitarian leaders from Ukraine and Ukrainian commanders.
Despite being in Poland right now, I’m with you not only actively online, but most of all with All my heart.

Best greetings from Poland!”
